Newlands Childcare Philosophy

Whāngaia ka tupu ka puawai

That which is nurtured blossoms and grows

Our tamariki

Our philosophy, is founded on trusting respectful relationships and our aroha for tamariki and whānau.

By developing in tamariki a strong foundation, skills and a passion for learning, our quality environment will help each child realize their potential.

We believe that through play children learn and explore at their highest level.

Our practice is guided by Te Whāriki, the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum and it’s principles of Kotahitanga, Whakamana, Whānau tangata and Ngā hononga.

Our culture

We honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the founding document of our nation and the principles of partnership, participation and protection are woven into our practice.

We welcome and respect the diversity of heritage, culture, language, identity, and family structure, and strive to maintain an inclusive community, where each has their place, all are valued and all have equal opportunities to learn.

We recognise that in the home is where the first and most influential learning takes place and that when teachers work together with whānau, children benefit. The opportunity for parents to join our governing committee is an example of this partnership.

Our commitment

We value commitment and professionalism in our teachers, ensuring they are well equipped for their role; supporting children to grow in their ability to think critically and be inquiring learners.

We model sustainable practices so we can meet the needs of today without impacting on the needs of tomorrow.

We provide a rich and varied environment: quality resources and opportunities for excursions, so that ākonga enjoy a range of experiences, build confidence and develop resilience.

We are strong advocates for early childhood education. We are members of the N.Z.E. I., Te Rito Maioha, Early Childhood Council, and local education networks.

We advocate for whānau and tamariki who are part of our centre community. Our Child Protection policy can be found here

Mā te ahurei o te tamaiti e arahi i a tātou mahi. Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work.

Te Whāriki

Te Whāriki is the national curriculum document for early childhood education (ECE), to be used with all children from birth to school entry. It sets out a framework of principles, strands, goals and learning outcomes that each setting will use as the basis for a ‘local’ curriculum.

ERO report

An ERO review looks at how an early learning service or school reaches positive learning outcomes - knowledge, skills, attitude and habits - for all children and young people. We’re interested in what’s working well and where improvements can be made.
